The San Diego Dream Team Demands Escondido Chief of Police, Craig Carter’s Endorsement of the TRUST Act

The San Diego Dream Team demands Escondido Chief of Police, Craig Carter’s endorsement of the Transparency and Responsibility Using State Tools (TRUST) Act as a necessary step to develop a trusting relationship between the Police Department and members of the Escondido’s immigrant community.

Many police departments throughout San Diego have become aware of Secure Communities effect on immigrants’ willingness to trust police and report crimes when they fear police will act as immigration agents. In response the chief of police of San Diego, Chula Vista, and National City have all publicly spoken out about the distrust created between their police departments and members of immigrant communities because of the implementation of Secure Communities. These three chiefs have therefore endorsed the TRUST Act to promote the development of mutual trust.

Escondido Police Department’s Chief of Police, Craig Carter must be the next to advocate for safer communities by endorsing the TRUST Act. Carter’s endorsement will demonstrate his commitment to promoting mutual trust between the Police Department and members of the Escondido’s immigrant community. As the San Diego Dream Team, we gave a September 13 deadline for Carter to endorse the TRUST Act on behalf of the Escondido Police Department.
